After you sign in you land on Sidekicks. On the left is a column of your sidekicks; the rest of the screen is a live chat with whichever one is selected. The admin sidebar on the far left takes you everywhere else. Hover over it to see the labels.
| Sidebar item | What you do there |
|---|---|
| Sidekicks | Chat with your sidekicks. Switch to Grid View to edit, preview, copy embed code or delete them. |
| Create Sidekick | Open the creation wizard. If your plan's sidekick limit is reached, it shows a lock and offers an upgrade instead. |
| Users | Invite teammates as admins, or add subscribers who can only chat. |
| Knowledge Base | Upload documents and crawl websites your sidekicks can read. See Knowledge Base. |
| Lore | Your personal context, which helps sidekicks understand you. See Lore & Memory. |
| Scheduled Tasks | Reminders, briefs and abilities that run on a schedule. See Scheduled Tasks. |
| Abilities | The catalog of things a sidekick can do. See Abilities. |
| Monitoring | This month's usage and recent activity. See Monitoring. |
| Docs | You're here. |
| Your name (bottom) | Profile Settings: your details, Telegram link, billing and password. |
If your account is on a free trial, the bottom of the sidebar also shows a small usage meter. Click it to see your plan and what's left this month.
Create your first sidekick
Click Create Sidekick in the sidebar. The first screen asks how you'd like to build it:
- Talk with Farah (recommended). Farah, our own sidekick, asks you the questions out loud and fills in the form from your answers. Your browser will ask for microphone access.
- Continue without voice. Fill in the same steps yourself.
Either way, you go through nine short steps. Each step is labelled with the part of the sidekick it shapes (Identity, Spirit, Body, Mind), matching the tabs you'll use later to fine-tune it.
Identity: name it
Type a name, or press Randomize Name. The address shown underneath is the sidekick's slug, which becomes part of its embed link.
Spirit: describe its personality
A sentence or two about how it should talk and behave is enough, e.g. "Warm and patient, explains things simply, asks a clarifying question when a request is vague." Open Advanced: Personality Traits to fine-tune five sliders, from Practical to Creative and from Reserved to Outgoing.
Body: choose a voice
Pick a preset voice (click one to hear a sample), record yourself under My Voice and press Clone Voice, or upload a 5–10 second clip with Upload Voice Sample.
Body: give it a face
Describe a look and generate an avatar (this takes 30–90 seconds, so stay on the page). You can then describe changes to refine it, upload your own image, or skip and use a default.
Abilities: pick its skills
Switch on the built-in abilities you want, such as web search or article writing. Some abilities need an API key; you'll be asked for those in step 8. You can change abilities at any time.
Mind: give it knowledge
Drop in PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT or MD files (up to 100 MB, within your plan's limits), or paste a website address and press Add Site. This step is optional, and you can add knowledge later.
Mind: choose a configuration
Recommended picks a tested combination of speech, voice, language model and search settings, so most people should choose it. Advanced lets you choose each provider yourself.
API keys
If your account uses Sidekick Forge Inference, there's nothing to enter and this step just confirms which services are included. If you bring your own keys, paste them here. Keys are encrypted, and you can change them later under API Keys.
Launch
Review the summary and press Create Sidekick. A few seconds later it's live and ready to talk.
Talk to your sidekick
Go to Sidekicks and select your new sidekick. The buttons at the top left of the chat switch between modes:
- Text: type and read, like any chat.
- Voice: a spoken conversation. Allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Video: a conversation with an animated avatar. Available on the Champion plan and up, once an avatar provider is set on the Body tab.
New Conversation starts fresh, and the expand icon makes the chat fullscreen.
Try asking it about something in a document you uploaded. If the answer cites the document, your knowledge base is working.
Sidekick Forge Inference or your own keys
A sidekick uses several AI services at once: a language model to think, a voice to speak, speech recognition to hear, and an embedding model to search your documents. You can get these two ways, and you can mix them service by service:
Sidekick Forge Inference
We provide the services. Nothing to sign up for, and usage counts toward your plan. This is the easiest way to start.
Bring your own keys
Paste your own key for a provider (for example Cerebras, ElevenLabs or Deepgram). That service is billed to you directly, and you choose exactly which models and voices to use.
You can switch any single service between the two at any time. See API Keys.
Your first-day checklist
- Write its soul. On the Spirit tab, describe who your sidekick is and how it speaks. This has the biggest effect on how it sounds.
- Feed it knowledge. Upload your FAQs, product sheets and policies on the Knowledge Base.
- Choose its abilities. Switch on what it should be able to do on the Abilities tab.
- Decide who can reach it. Turn guest chat on or off, then copy the embed code. See Embedding & Channels.
- Optional: let it work for you. Connect your inbox under Senses, or ask it for a morning brief with Scheduled Tasks.
